Autoblot: Eastern Hemisphere

Sonlight's Core 5 program is, I've heard, a kind of watershed. The program is fantastic. Like all of Sonlight's homeschool packages, Core 5 contains stories that caused Luke and his siblings to cheer at the end.

But this Core is also rather different. Core 5 contains much more research than previous Cores. It also steps outside the American History/World History theme and returns to a focus on Cultures. (Click here to see Sonlight's homeschool programs organized by theme.)

What about you? Did you love Core 5? Are you looking forward to it?

It's my very favorite. We are doing it for the second time right now and I love it just as much as the first time. It's wonderful. Truly, I know this sound odd, but it changed my heart when I did it the first time. Or, rather, the LORD used it to change my heart. I was so touched by the millions and millions of people who have not heard of Jesus. I so the beauty in so many cultures, but the darkness of pagan religions that rule their lands.

Core 5 will be the one core that I plan for every child to do TWICE. Just to be sure they get it.

I'm grateful Sonlight saw the vision of such a year of study because I would not have thought of it on my own.

I'm hoping and praying that we get to start Core 5 in January. God willing, we will! I've been excited about this Core for over a year and a half now and can't wait to get started!

We're planning to do it next year, and I'm so excited!! I've heard such great things about it. I think the Mission India project is a mini-intro to Core 5 for us. :)

I totally love Core 5!!! I love the assignments, I love the projects... we are doing it for the second time and will happily do it six more times!!! My kids really look forward to the little assignments and are so happy to learn so much to get to them!!! I love that it is not just the facts, if I had been preparing it I would have packed it with facts, but this core is so much more it looks at arts and cultures and the heart of the people. I love that it appeals to their creative side as well - encouraging them to try recipes, music, costumes and make puppet shows and things. My guys have loved the adventurousness of it - this is really virtual traveling at its best. And as for having to find things in World Book...well a quick look-up is not an option, they spend hours wandering along from link to link and just love it... I want to say "Would you stop reading the World Book Already" - but I catch myself and leave them to it!!!
