Sonlight Live!

I would love your help.

On June 1, 2010 we will have our very first Virtual Meetup where you'll get to see some live presentations and other stuff. ...very exciting other stuff. <smile>

But in order to do that, I first need to figure out how to do it. I've got something I'm going to try, and I invite you to join in and help me beta test. Tomorrow morning, at 8:30am Mountain Time, Sarita Holzmann will be presenting at our very first Sonlight Live! event:

Sonlight Live!

I will also be recording this presentation as a possible sample to send to conventions so they are encouraged to have her come speak. So it should be a very encouraging message.

I hope you can swing by tomorrow morning at 8:30am Mountain Time to take part in the first test of Sonlight Live!

After the event, please let me know what your experience was like. Did it work? Did you enjoy it? Did anything confuse/bother you? What would make the experience better for you?

Thanks!

Okay - I only watched a bit, and I came in during the middle. For the most part, I liked it.

She seemed a bit nervous or uncomfortable in front of the camera, which surprised me.

The papers/notes in her hand were a bit distracting, but only a bit.

I was impressed that the streaming was completely fluid for me. I cannot watch videos on YouTube or the like without first hitting "pause" and walking away for a few minutes while the buffering catches up; I can never start the video, and expect it to be fluid, unless I start it when it is buffered to 3/4ths done. So, the fluidity of whatever you guys are using to stream this (is that the proper term??) is amazing and wonderful, even for someone with as poor internet as I have. Major, major Kudos for that.

The subject matter of this particular video was a bit bleh for me. BUT, I started 15 mins in, so it is likely that I, as a veteran of Cores P3/4 to Core 5, am simply not the target audience.

I am excited to think I will actually be able to participate in the anniversary stuff. Until now, I was certain my internet was way too slow.

Heather, glad to hear that the video was working for you! That is super exciting <smile>.

Yes, her notes were a bit distracting. The microphone was also rubbing on her sweater, which caused even more noise. I forgot to fix that before we started rolling.

And you're right: The subject matter is a bit "old hat" for those of us who have been around Sonlight for a while. The biggest goal of this event was to test the system... and that seems to have been a huge success <smile>.

As for being uncomfortable in front of the camera: My mom hates public speaking. Well, not the encouraging homeschoolers part. She loves that! The part where she has to get up and talk in front of people is what she doesn't like that at all <smile>. But she has realized that she needs to move out of her comfort zone and start speaking... so this is part of that move as well.

Thanks for your feedback!

~Luke
