Meet Luke Holzmann

My name is Luke Holzmann. I am the second oldest of four children of John and Sarita Holzmann who founded Sonlight Curriculum.

Photo from My Wedding July 10, 2005:

I was homeschooled with Sonlight as it was developed from 1st through 8th grade. I then attended a public high school and graduated Valedictorian with somewhere around 19-21 Letters (swimming, cross country, academics, band, track, forensics...).

Swimming

I then attended Biola University with academic and swimming scholarships. I graduated Magna Cum Laude from the Mass Comm department with a degree in Motion Picture Production and the "Best Independent Filmmaker" award.

Video Camera

I moved to Englewood, married my college sweetheart Brittany, started my own production company, and produced videos for Sonlight (including MathTacular).

Wedding

Brittany and I were in the process of adopting children, and so I needed something with slightly more reliability and benefits than working as an Independent Contractor could afford. Thus, I applied for the role of "Media Relations Specialist" at Sonlight Curriculum where I now blog daily, and produce podcasts and videos among other things.

While waiting on the adoption, we took in two girls for many months. After they went back to their parents, and with start of 2011, our adoption journey ended.

We've covered the "Filmmaker" and "Empty Nester" bits of my signature line, so what about the "Writer" part?

Well, I am blogging daily. I'm also a published author. And I'm working on a completely different book with my best friend from college.

Why not put all that in my profile?

1. It's rather long.
2. I also run a media production mentoring blog/site at Production-Now.com, and this profile information doesn't much apply.

So, there it is: Luke Holzmann's biography in about 500 words.

Please feel free to ask about whatever else if you're interested in learning more.

Thanks for taking the time to comment!

I don't have an official Adoption blog, but if I'm not writing about it here, it will show up on my personal blog: lukeholzmann.blogspot.com

Luke, well, thanks for having a blog of this level of creativeness. I bet this will make my husband an addict as well. He is a filmer, writer and genius too if my vote counts. We homeschool and are in the process of adopting too... so here we are on the bandwagon, glad to be along.

Jill,

Glad to have such great people along on the bandwagon <smile>.

Your husband sounds like a great guy! I've started a website dedicated to helping youth produce media, if he'd be interested in maybe getting involved... always looking for people who know more than I do!

Luke, thank you for reading and commenting on my blog! I have enjoyed perusing through your personal blog and your homeschool blog. As you probably know from my own blog, I use Sonlight curriculum with my Kindergartner, and now after seeing your picture... I think I remember seeing your face pop up in our science video! Am I correct in saying that? Sonlight has been such a blessing to our family.

I wish you the best in your adoption adventures. I don't know if you are in the process of foreign or domestic adoption, but one of my dearest friends was adopted (along with her twin sister) from Korea. I am amazed at how God has used their lives - one to be an overseas missionary and another to work for the US Govt. domestically and overseas. How different their lives (and the lives of so many others) would have been if they had stayed in an orphanage in Korea! Adoption is a beautiful thing, and I wish you and your wife the best.

You correct: I show up now and again in the Discover & Do and MathTacular DVDs (but most of the time I'm the guy behind the camera <smile>.

I am so glad that Sonlight has been a blessing. May you continue to experience the joy of homeschooling!

And we are adopting from Kyrgyzstan, and we appreciate your well wishes and prayers!

I was reading your profile info (thanks for reading my blog btw) and when I saw your family picture started laughing since I recognized your brother - having watched him just yesterday on Mathtacular (which our kids are loving too).

I also have a homeschool blog that I'll be posting my review of Mathtacular on in the next few weeks. I'll be sure to let you all know when it's up!
